This comprehensive training is designed to provide you with the essential skills and knowledge required for a legal professional working in probate law.

  • Introduction to the Probate Process: An introduction to Probate process, key words, and analysis of scenarios.
  • Starting a Probate: Preparing the Petition, Notice, and other forms to begin the probate process including calendaring and serving the notice, and more! 
  • Letters and Notice to Creditors: Things to do after the Letters are issued, including 2 month and 4 month tasks. 
  • Inventory and Appraisal: Preparing the Inventory and Appraisal, the role of the Probate Referee, and more!
  • Petition for Final Distribution, Closing the Probate: Preparation of the Petition for Final Distribution and closing out the probate matter.
  • BONUS | Brief Q&A

Your Instructor:

Mary Lou Floyd, CCLS

Mary Lou Floyd has been a paralegal for over 30 years, has a BA in Criminal Justice, and an MS in Psychology. Mary Lou obtained her paralegal certificate from the National Institution for Paralegal Studies (now Devry).

She has been self-employed as a Sr. Paralegal since 2020. She has had a long career working in law offices (including training and mentoring legal staff). She has been a member of the Mt. Diablo Legal Professionals Association since 1988, is a past president, and is currently the Parliamentarian. At the Legal Professionals Inc. state level, she has served as the Continuing Education Coordinator and has taught numerous legal classes.

All sessions will be held in a secure member portal. Additional support materials will also be available in the library. You will be provided with further instructions after joining.
